I _____________________________ agree to uphold the following in my position as a Safe Zone Ally at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte.

1. Publically support all students regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity by displaying my Safe Zone Ally Placard.

2. Refer students to necessary resources both on and off campus to assist them in any way I can and not attempt to help them myself if I am not an expert in that manner.

3. Object to homophobia and heterosexism anywhere I see it at UNC-Charlotte and speak up in support of a safe and accepting environment at this institution.

4. Explore and understand my personal fears, biases, heterocentric attitudes and homophobic feelings and keep them to myself and not impose them on any student.

5. Regardless of my personal views, as a Safe Zone Ally I will not try to “change,” or “convert” any student because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

By signing my name below I agree that if I leave the institution for any reason I will contact the Assistant Director for Sexual/Gender Diversity and inform them of my leaving. In addition I agree to make arrangements to transfer or return my Safe Zone Ally placard should I leave my current office location or transfer to a different office.
