The Anti-Defamation League developed the Pyramid of Hate to show case how individuals can progress to genocide. The idea is that no one wakes up one morning and decides to kill an entire group of people simply for who or what they are. Instead hate is a process over time that starts with an individual having prejudicial attitudes. That individual then takes those attitudes and expresses them in acts of prejudice. That prejudice can then be manifested in discrimination. Ultimately this hatred through misunderstanding, isinformation, and prejudice manifests itself into violence and ultimately genocide.

The purpose of sharing this model is to showcase that an individual can make a difference and stop the next act of discrimination, violence, or genocide simply by acting out. Please see the next page and the Pyramid of Alliance for more.
